What Drives Cats Crazy?

     Cat always acts like an emperor who rules the men, but there's one thing which makes cat crazy and roll with ecstasy. Even the most dignified cat also does. It's Nepeta cataria (貓薄荷), also called catnip.  Actually it's not a kind of mint. The phenomenon that cats will get high once contacting with this plant was found two hundred years ago.

 Nepetalactone

     Nepetalactone (荊芥內酯), a unique compound in Nepeta cataria, was regarded as the key of craze. Nepetalactone is similar to some chemicals found in male cats' urine, so female cats get high after smelling it. However, the later research showed that no matter what gender the cat is, he or she get crazy once smelling catnip. It seems that catnip makes cat's skin more sensitive, and cat rolls on the ground to ease.Not every cat reacts with catnip. About ten percentage of cats never react when smelling catnid. So do the kitten under six month. Scientists said, whether a cat reacts or not is dependent on genes.

     Furthermore, not only domestic cats but also big cats are sensitive to  catnip.  No matter leopards, lynx or African lions and so on. Other animals like mice, dogs, rabbits and pigs doesn't give a reaction to catnip. Luckily, the research doesn't cause the change of catnip's name.

     Beside nepetalactone,  there are 14 compounds can make cat get high. Although we found the secret of catnip, we still haven't find the reason why cats get crazy on it. Perhaps it's as mysterious as the un usual behavior of cats. (265 words)

Appearance and Character

     There are kinds of colors of cats' fur. Believe it or not, actually, appearance is associated with cat's personality. Following are some instance. Let's go!

     Black. Black cats are friendly to people. They're the cats of sentiment. However, sometimes they would be obstinate on certain food.

     Gray. Gray cats are kind and elegant. They are used to hide in corner and look you secretly. Quite cute they are, aren't them?

     White. If you thought of delicate and touching cats, they would be white cats. White cats are free and alone, have less contact with people.

     Tabby. Due to genes, tabby cats are always female. They are good at observation, exercise and adventure. You'd better not peeve them, you will not like it.

     Orange tabby. Almost all orange cats are boys. They are lazy, clumsy and timid. Just like children, always bring joy to us. Garfield is exactly in this category.(150 words)

     There's no stray cats in the world in fact. Cats are always wandering around every corner. Even if they do stay in human's house safe and sound. They are born vagrant.

     Keeping a cat is not as same as keeping a dog, you can't occupy cats. They are owned to no one except themselves. Therefore, many cats left people's house and never get back. And... we call the free cats around the street" stray cats. "

     Thousands of cats wander in the city day and night, also being captured day and night. In the past, which caught would be humanly destroyed(安樂死) after staying over twelve nights. A Taiwan movie Twelve Nights told the story of the last period of stray animals’ life.

     However, how come those innocent animals have to vanish under human’s selfishness?

     Most country carry out a plan, Trap Neuter(絕育) Return, abbreviates TNR. Governments try to control the quantity of stray animals by inhibiting their propagation. Cats go back to their place after ligated(結紮), being observed and recorded continuously. Though it’s quite effective and humane, it takes enormous cost and time. In order to respect and protect every precious life, it needs us to do effort, pay more attention on and keep it in mind.

     Next time when you see a cat walking among the street, look to his eyes, listen to him. You’ll find out that cats never get lost, ‘cause for them, there is no where to go. They are not looking for something, they are just living and sensing the world.

Hot Bath In Winter

Humans think cats are always afraid of water, but how does the cat feel about when it gets wet?

In order to save money and keep safe, let's look at this together.

First, you have to get these things below in your hands.

1. plastic basin, to contain your cat

2. towel, dry them after bathing

3. shower gel, it's special for cats instead of one for human. Don't use YOUR shower gel to clean the cat, if there's any remain, the cat will ingest by grooming
4. comb, either plastic one or wooden one, but you should have two, dense and thin
5. hair dryer, choose the less noisy one, to comfort your lovely cat

3. soak from feet, let cats adapt the warmth
4. drip them with water, and use shower gel to wash

1. be as tender as possible
2. do it exactly and rapidly
3. clip their nail before, in case that they hurt you

Many people say that dry food is so good for cats, because... it has balanced nutrition, decreasimg the formation of dental calculus(牙結石), it's easy to feed, and can be kept for long time. But is it totally correct and reasonable?

The best food for cats has to contain high animal protein, moderate fats, low carbohydrate, abundant water. Can food is much more similar to raw food, can offer more average nutrition than dry food.  Also, can food provide more water, so if you feed your cats dry food, don't forget to prepare extra water for them. (In fact, the water in can food is about seven times more than dry one!!)

The other comparable view is protein. Dry food has more vegetable protein, can food has more animal protein. Cars are carnivorous animals, though they look gentle. Our hearts are always cured when hearing the meows from cats. They seems to have the magical power so that everyone can't resist. However, cats meow rarely.
